Kinfolk Rising is a youth enrichment and homeschool cooperative designed to develop capable, confident, and community-minded young people through real-world learning, cultural grounding, and cooperative engagement.
We exist to bridge the space between what youth are taught and what they must actually know to navigate life with purpose, responsibility, and self-awareness.
Our work centers the lived experiences, history, and contributions of Black, African, and African American communities. Through this lens, we provide a learning environment where identity is affirmed, culture is respected, and growth is intentional.
At Kinfolk Rising, learning is not confined to worksheets. It shows up in:

- entrepreneurship and creativity
- field-based experiences
- community responsibility and leadership

A Cooperative, Not a Replacement for Home Education
Kinfolk Rising operates as a private, membership-based enrichment cooperative.
We support families by providing:
- structured enrichment programming
- supervised group learning experiences
- life skills development
- experiential and field-based learning
Parents and guardians remain the primary educators, maintaining full responsibility for their child’s academic instruction and compliance with Texas homeschool requirements.
Our Services
Kinfolk Rising provides structured youth enrichment services designed to support homeschool and community-based learners through supervised instruction, real-world skill development, and experiential learning.
All services are supplemental in nature, intended to enhance a student’s educational experience while parents or guardians maintain primary responsibility for core academic instruction.
Life Skills Development Labs
Our Life Skills Labs focus on practical competencies that prepare youth for everyday life and long-term independence.
Core areas include:
- Financial literacy fundamentals
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Time management and personal responsibility
- Basic cooking and nutrition
- Introductory entrepreneurship
These sessions are hands-on, structured, and outcome-oriented.
Character & Citizenship Development
We incorporate guided activities that promote:
- Respect and personal accountability
- Leadership and teamwork
- Community awareness and responsibility
Participants engage in discussions and group exercises that reinforce positive behavior and civic-minded thinking.
Experiential Learning & Field Trips (Learning In Motion)
Kinfolk Rising provides organized, supervised off-site learning experiences to connect youth with real-world environments.
Examples include:
- Cultural and educational institutions
- Local businesses and trade exposure
- Agricultural and sustainability sites
- Community service opportunities
All field experiences are:
- Designed with clear learning objectives
- Pre-planned and structured
- Supervised by program facilitators
Youth Entrepreneurship & Creative Projects
Participants are introduced to foundational business and creative concepts through guided projects.
Activities may include:
- Product creation and development
- Basic budgeting and pricing exercises
- Group-based business simulations
- Youth-led showcase events and trade days
This component encourages initiative, creativity, and applied learning.

Kinfolk Rising is intentionally designed to support and uplift youth from Black and African diaspora communities, who have historically been underserved in traditional educational spaces.
At the same time, we maintain an open enrollment model.
We welcome families from all backgrounds who respect our cultural focus, value community-centered learning, and are committed to positive participation
